Real Life Little Big League Taking League By Storm!
-Miami Florida
As the Marlins entered this season no one knew exactly what to expect. Without a manager through the first week of the season the Marlins went out and hired young Andrew Flynn, when we say young we mean young at the date of his hiring the young manager was only 6 years old. Marlins owner Shane Baxter had this to say "We saw Andrew out on the tee-ball fields during the first week of the season on a scouting trip for a potential free agent in the Cincinnati area. Little did we know we'd find a bonafide star on the smallest field around. He was just mashing in his game, 4-4 with 3 homeruns and 9 RBI's. His baseball acumen was outstanding and not something you find everyday in a 6 year old. We signed him on the spot to lead our manager-less team." It's quickly turned into a giant success as the Marlins are currently one game behind the Phillies in the NL East with a 21-9 record. First round draft pick Ken Griffey Jr. who went to storied Archbishop Moeller High School in the Cincinnati area, the same high school young Andrew will most likely go onto attend in 8 years or so following in his fathers footsteps, is currently leading the team with 8 homers and 27 runs batted in through the first 30 games. He his having himself an MVP type year without a doubt, he's also currently sitting at a .336 batting average.
Leading the pitching corps this year for the Marlins has been none other than 1990 Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek. Thru 7 games he has a record of 6-0 with a 1.11 ERA as well as 49 strikeouts in 57 innings. Not far behind him has been Mark Langston also 6-0 with only a slightly higher ERA of 1.64. The bullpen is being led by Kevin Rogers who is tied for the league lead with 10 saves and is sporting a 0.64 ERA early on. If the staff can keep up this type of production the Marlins could find themselves in the playoffs come the end of the year.
